Makalu Base Camp FAQ

Click any day to expand the detailed route information

How difficult is the Makalu Base Camp Trek?
This trek is considered challenging. It involves long trekking days, significant altitude gain (reaching 5,550m), and remote terrain with basic facilities. It is best suited for experienced trekkers with good physical fitness.
What is the best time to go?
The best windows are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (October-November). Spring offers rhododendron blooms and warmer temperatures, while Autumn provides the clearest mountain views after the monsoon.
How remote is this region compared to Everest?
The Makalu region is significantly more remote. You'll encounter far fewer trekkers, and the teahouses are more basic. It offers a much more "raw" Himalayan experience than the well-trodden EBC trail.
