Detailed Itinerary

01 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)

Welcome to Nepal! Our representative will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Thamel. In the evening, attend a briefing session with your guide to review the itinerary, gear checklist, and permits. Explore Thamel's vibrant streets for dinner. Overnight in Kathmandu.

02 Drive Kathmandu → Syabrubesi (1,550m)

An early morning drive of approximately 7–8 hours takes you north through the Trishuli Valley to Syabrubesi, the charming gateway town to Langtang National Park. The road winds through terraced hillsides, river gorges, and small Tamang villages. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

03 Syabrubesi → Lama Hotel (2,380m)

The trail enters Langtang National Park and immediately plunges into dense subtropical forest. You'll cross the Langtang Khola river on a suspension bridge and ascend steeply through bamboo and rhododendron groves. The first Tamang villages appear along the trail. Walking time: ~5–6 hours.

04 Lama Hotel → Langtang Village (3,430m)

The forest gradually gives way to open alpine terrain as the valley widens dramatically. Pass through the historic Ghora Tabela army post and the traditional Tamang settlement of Langtang Village, partially rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake. The views of Langtang Lirung begin to dominate the skyline. Walking time: ~5–6 hours.

05 Langtang Village → Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m)

A shorter but highly rewarding day through open yak pastures with increasingly spectacular views in every direction. Arrive at Kyanjin Gompa, the highest settlement in the valley. Visit the ancient monastery, walk among fluttering prayer flags, and enjoy your first evening in this magical high-altitude village. Walking time: ~3–4 hours.

06 Acclimatization — Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) or Tsergo Ri (4,984m)

The highlight day. Rise before dawn for the steep hike to Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) — a 2–3 hour ascent rewarded by a breathtaking 360° panorama of Langtang Lirung (7,227m), Gangchenpo, Yala Peak, and peaks stretching across the Tibetan border. For the more adventurous, Tsergo Ri (4,984m) offers even wider views. Visit the Yak Cheese Factory in the afternoon and explore the gompa. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.

07 Kyanjin Gompa → Lama Hotel (2,380m)

Begin the descent through the same dramatic valley, this time with the peaks behind you and the forested lower valley ahead. The pace is quicker on the way down. Take time to revisit Langtang Village and its memorial chortens. Walking time: ~6–7 hours.

08 Lama Hotel → Syabrubesi (1,550m)

Continue descending through the lush lower forest, retracing the trail back to Syabrubesi. The contrast between the open alpine world above and the subtropical forest below is striking. Celebrate the completion of your trek over a hot meal in Syabrubesi. Walking time: ~4–5 hours.

09 Drive Syabrubesi → Kathmandu (1,400m)

An early morning drive returns you to Kathmandu in approximately 7–8 hours. The afternoon is free for last-minute shopping in Thamel — carpets, pashminas, and trekking souvenirs make great gifts. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your guide. Overnight in Kathmandu.

10 Final Departure

Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your international flight home. Your BESTTREKSNEPAL guide will accompany you to the airport and bid you a warm farewell. Safe travels, and we hope to see you back for your next Himalayan adventure!

Langtang Valley FAQ

How difficult is the Langtang Valley trek?
The Langtang Valley trek is considered easy to moderate. It's one of the most accessible high-altitude treks in Nepal, with a steady ascent and well-maintained trails. It's an excellent choice for first-time trekkers or those with limited time who still want a full Himalayan experience.
How has the valley recovered from the 2015 earthquake?
Langtang was heavily affected by the 2015 earthquake, but the recovery has been remarkable. Langtang Village has been rebuilt slightly above the original site, and teahouses are now better and safer than ever. By trekking here, you are directly supporting the local community's continued economic recovery.
What is the highest point on the trek?
The highest sleeping point is Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m). However, the optional hike to Tsergo Ri reaches 4,984m, offering incredible panoramic views. Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) is a slightly lower and easier alternative for those who want a great view without the extra push.
Can I see Red Pandas in Langtang?
Yes, Langtang National Park is a key habitat for the endangered Red Panda. While they are shy and difficult to spot, they are occasionally seen in the bamboo and rhododendron forests between Syabrubesi and Lama Hotel. Keep your eyes peeled and your voice low!
Is it possible to combine this with Gosainkunda Lake?
Absolutely. Many trekkers add 5-6 days to their itinerary to cross the Lauribina Pass (4,610m) and visit the sacred alpine lakes of Gosainkunda. It's a challenging but deeply rewarding extension that adds a spiritual dimension to the trek.
